Onna Sanshirou - Typhoon Gal (rev 1)
Taito • 1985

A lone female warrior stands against numerous challengers in Taito’s 1985 two-player fighting game, Onna Sanshirou – Typhoon Gal. Players control this martial artist as she battles to defend her dojo's reputation, facing a steady stream of opponents on screen. Utilizing an eight-way joystick and two buttons for attack, players must skillfully maneuver their character to defeat each foe and progress through the challenge. The game’s title translates from Japanese to “Sanshiro Woman,” referencing a popular martial arts theme. Onna Sanshirou – Typhoon Gal features a distinctive sound design powered by multiple chips, including a General Instrument AY8910 and an MSM5232, alongside a digital-to-analog converter for added audio complexity. Originally released in October of 1985, the game’s internal workings rely on Zilog Z80 processors to manage both gameplay and sound. A port of Onna Sanshirou – Typhoon Gal later appeared as part of the compilation "Taito Memories II Gekan" for the Sony PlayStation 2 in Japan.
