Gameplay

Taito’s N.Y. Captor, released in Japan during October 1985, is a single-player shooter utilizing a light gun for aiming and firing. Players defend New York City from waves of approaching enemies in this early example of Taito's foray into the gun game genre. Familiar characters from the earlier Chack’n Pop title—Ms. Chack’n, Chack’n, and a Monsta—make brief appearances within the gameplay. The screen presents a horizontal view with a resolution of 256x224 pixels, displaying vibrant colors from a palette of 512 available hues. Players use their light gun to target and destroy incoming threats, maneuvering to avoid damage while accumulating points. A single button serves as an additional control option beyond the aiming function. The game’s technical specifications include dual Zilog Z80 processors running at 4 MHz, a Motorola M68705 processor at 2 MHz, along with sound chips from General Instrument and MSM to generate audio. Bootleg versions of N.Y. Captor are sometimes found under the name "Colt."
