New Rally-X
Namco • 1981

New Rally-X tasks players with navigating twisting mazes to collect ten flags while managing dwindling fuel reserves and avoiding pursuing enemy cars. Controlling a racing car via a four-way joystick, you must strategically gather flags displayed on a radar screen while contending with red vehicles that relentlessly attempt to ram your own. A smoke-screen feature offers temporary respite from the chase but consumes valuable fuel, demanding careful usage. Each maze presents unique challenges including rock formations and simplified layouts designed to reduce frustrating dead ends. Special “S” flags double point values for collected flags until a life is lost, while "L" flags award bonus points based on remaining fuel. As you progress, the number of pursuing enemy cars increases, demanding increased skill and precision in maneuvering through the increasingly complex environments. The game features an alternate player mode where players can take turns competing for the highest score, with bonus points awarded at the end of each round depending on how much fuel remains. New Rally-X builds upon its predecessor, Rally-X, introducing new music and subtle graphical enhancements to create a more engaging and refined maze driving experience.
