Gameplay

Navigate perilous platforms in Naughty Mouse, a cooperative run-and-jump arcade game from Amenip (distributed by Palcom Queen River) released in 1981. As Naughty Mouse, players use a single jump button to avoid persistent woodpeckers that emerge from large eggs lining the screen's edges. The objective is to guide your mouse character from his home at the bottom of the display to his girlfriend’s house located at the top, progressing through increasingly challenging stages. Adding to the challenge are ladders which can become electrified after use, preventing backtracking and demanding careful route planning. Successfully reaching your destination awards bonus points based on remaining time and advances you to the next level. Two players can collaborate, each controlling a mouse, in this vertically-oriented game featuring a resolution of 224 x 288 pixels and utilizing a palette of 16 colors. Naughty Mouse, also known as Woodpecker, presents a straightforward yet engaging gameplay loop driven by responsive controls and simple mechanics—a 4-way joystick directs movement while a single button manages jumps, all powered by a Zilog Z80 processor and Namco sound chip.
