A graveyard keeper must confront hordes of zombies and other creatures to solve a mystery of grave robbing in Nightmare in the Dark. This cooperative platformer, released in 2000 by Eleven/Gavaking, allows two players to team up against the undead using attacks and jumps. The game's visuals feature detailed backgrounds alongside an engaging soundtrack reminiscent of titles like Snow Bros. Players control a character tasked with restoring peace to the cemetery, battling enemies while navigating levels filled with traps and secrets. Fireballs can be thrown as primary attacks, and strategic use of hidden spots on level walls allows for powerful, unpredictable shots. Collecting treasure chests and diamond sacks provides score multipliers that reward skillful play. Nightmare in the Dark runs on SNK’s Neo-Geo MVS hardware and offers a variety of character color options accessible from the start screen through button combinations. Attempts to enter certain initials on the high score table will be automatically altered, adding a quirky, unexpected element to gameplay.
