Nebulas Ray (World, NR2)
Namco • 1994

Nebulas Ray is a fast-paced, cooperative vertical scrolling shooter released by Namco in 1994. Players take on the roles of resistance fighters battling against the militaristic Master Forces who have seized control of the Austral star system. Navigate through six distinct levels filled with enemy ships and challenging formations as you fight to destroy the imposing Master Fortress at the heart of their operation. Up to four players can join forces, each controlling a ship equipped with standard weaponry and a limited supply of powerful bombs for devastating attacks. Throughout gameplay, numerous power-ups are available to enhance your arsenal, boosting shot width, destructive force, or speed. Players can also acquire temporary but potent weapons like photon torpedoes, homing lasers, lightning bursts, deflectors, and score multipliers. The game’s visuals create a sense of depth with complex sprite animation and layered scrolling backgrounds. Nebulas Ray runs on Namco's NB-1 hardware, utilizing a Motorola processor and dedicated sound chip to deliver an engaging experience controlled by an eight-way joystick and three buttons. A soundtrack album was released shortly after the game’s debut, showcasing its original music.
