Gameplay

NAM-1975 is a cooperative third-person shooter released by SNK in 1990 as the debut title for their Neo-Geo MVS hardware. Players control soldiers Silver and Brown on a mission to rescue Dr. R. Muckly, an American scientist kidnapped alongside his daughter. As they fight through enemy-occupied environments based around the Vietnam War, it is revealed that Dr. Muckly has sinister plans involving a powerful laser weapon. Gameplay involves navigating scrolling stages while shooting enemies from a perspective behind the player characters. Initially armed with a machine gun and grenades, players can pick up more devastating weaponry like flamethrowers and missile launchers dropped by defeated foes. Saving hostages during missions allows them to temporarily join your team, providing additional firepower. The game supports two-player simultaneous action using an eight-way joystick and three buttons for shooting, special weapon use, and a run/emergency control function. The final confrontation with Dr. Muckly offers no continues, adding significant tension to the climactic battle. Drawing inspiration from films like Full Metal Jacket, NAM-1975 delivers a fast-paced action experience rooted in war themes.
