Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Europe 980123)
Capcom • 1998

Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes is a two-player fighting game released in Europe in 1998 by Capcom. Built on the CPS-II hardware platform, this title pits characters from Marvel Comics against those from Capcom’s video game franchises in fast-paced, over-the-top battles. Players choose from a roster of heroes and villains, executing special moves and aerial combos to defeat their opponents across vibrant stages. The gameplay emphasizes team-based combat; players select three characters per side, with the ability to switch between them during a match. This allows for diverse strategies and complex combinations as familiar faces like Megaman (originally known as Rockman) face off against Capcom icons such as Chun-Li. Unique to this version are localized changes – some character names were altered for Western audiences, and even the announcer's voice recordings included alternate pronunciations of certain names. This arcade release is part of a series developed in Japan, with subsequent ports appearing on various consoles including Sega Dreamcast and Sony PlayStation. Later digital versions were also made available through online platforms such as Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network as part of “Marvel vs. Capcom Origins.”
