In Metal Slug 5, two players join forces to navigate a thrilling platform shooter experience on SNK’s Neo-Geo MVS hardware. The story unfolds as a stolen disk containing vital Metal Slug technology sparks a military operation to recover it from a shadowy paramilitary group known as the Ptolemaic Army, who are excavating ancient ruins. Players assume the roles of Marco and Tarma, or Eri and Fio, battling through varied environments, encountering both human foes and gigantic Metal Slugs along the way. Gameplay introduces a new "slide" mechanic allowing for quick evasions and unique attack opportunities. Utilizing an eight-way joystick and four buttons, players control their characters to shoot, jump, and deploy grenades, while also piloting vehicles and unleashing powerful Metal Slug weaponry. The cooperative action and challenging encounters make Metal Slug 5 a memorable addition to the long-running series.
