Metal Slug 3 delivers intense side-scrolling platform action for up to two players on SNK's Neo-Geo MVS hardware. Returning from previous installments, you’ll once again control elite soldiers battling General Morden's forces through varied environments, now with a greater focus on challenging boss encounters. A key feature of this 2000 release is its branching level design; choices made early in missions can lead to vastly different paths and gameplay experiences, such as an underwater sequence teeming with aquatic creatures. The game introduces quirky twists to the core gameplay, including temporary character transformations like becoming overweight from excessive food consumption or even a zombie, each impacting movement and providing unique attack abilities. While zombified, players unleash a “zombie vomit” projectile against enemies. Metal Slug 3 also cleverly incorporates references to popular science fiction films throughout its stages, adding a layer of playful homage for attentive players.
