Mr. Driller 2 (World, DR22 Ver.A)
Namco • 2000

Namco’s Mr. Driller 2, released in 2000, builds upon the original puzzle game formula with a cooperative two-player experience. Players control either Susumu Hori or Anna Hottenmeyer as they navigate increasingly challenging subterranean environments. The core gameplay involves using a joystick to rotate and then push falling blocks downwards; successfully connecting three or more identical blocks causes them to disappear, carving a path deeper into the earth. The objective is to dig your way through each stage before the ceiling collapses upon you. As players descend, they collect diamonds which can be used to activate special drills that clear large areas of blocks. With its frantic pace and increasingly complex block patterns, Mr. Driller 2 demands quick reflexes and spatial reasoning. Running on Namco’s System 10 hardware, this installment retains the addictive gameplay loop of its predecessor while introducing a new dimension of competitive cooperation as two players work together to survive the drilling depths.
