Gameplay

A new threat emerges in Golden Axe II (Mega Play), requiring the familiar heroes to once again take up arms. Following the defeat of the Death Adder, a sorcerer named Dark Guld escapes imprisonment and seizes control of the Golden Axe, unleashing chaos across the land. Players choose from Ax-Battler, Tyris-Flare, or Gilius Thunderhead – each with unique fighting styles and magical abilities - to confront this new evil and reclaim the legendary artifact. This 1993 Sega arcade game builds upon the established Golden Axe formula, offering a side-scrolling beat-'em-up experience for up to two players. Control your chosen warrior using an eight-way joystick and three buttons dedicated to attack, jump, and magic. Strategic use of magic is key; tapping the attack button delivers the most powerful spell available at that time. Golden Axe II presents a more challenging experience than its console counterpart, featuring fewer lives and health units, alongside an eight-minute time limit. Players can also unleash devastating special attacks by combining jump and attack inputs, adding another layer of depth to the frantic battles against Dark Guld’s forces.
