Momoko 120% (Japanese text)
Jaleco • 1986

Jaleco’s Momoko 120% is a cooperative platform game released in Japan in 1986. Two players control a young girl as she navigates a series of increasingly challenging environments, shooting enemies and jumping across obstacles to escape a burning building. The unusual journey takes them from a preschool setting through various locations culminating in a wedding chapel, where collecting specific items is required to progress the narrative. The gameplay involves precise platforming and projectile attacks against diverse monster designs. Originally intended as an Urusei Yatsura game, the final product retained elements of that project including its opening theme music. While only officially released in Japan, a playable prototype surfaced with translated text—though the title screen remains in Japanese—and adjusted high score defaults. Players utilize an 8-way joystick and two buttons to maneuver their characters through this looping narrative, ultimately restarting the experience after reaching what appears to be a celebratory wedding ceremony. The game’s distinctive visual style and unusual plot make it a unique entry within the platform genre of the mid-1980s.
