Minky Monkey
Technos Japan / Roller Tron • 1982

Minky Monkey is a two-player puzzle game released in 1982 by Technos Japan in collaboration with Roller Tron. Players control primate characters who must strategically manipulate blocks to create pathways and collect bananas scattered across each stage. Using a simple four-way joystick and a single button, players push the blocks around, carefully planning their movements to avoid obstacles and reach the goal while gathering all the fruit. The game’s presentation marks Technos' debut title and features graphics designed by H. Fukuda and M. Kogoma. Sound direction was handled by T. Tako, with music produced using General Instrument AY8910 sound chips. While the title screen indicates a 1982 release date, Minky Monkey arrived in Japan in March of 1983. The gameplay provides a straightforward but challenging experience demanding spatial reasoning and coordination between both players as they work together to clear each level. Programmed by Noriyuki Tomiyama, Minky Monkey offers a unique blend of puzzle mechanics with a playful aesthetic.
