Mahjong Camera Kozou (Japan 881109, newer hardware)
Miki Syouji • 1989

Mahjong Camera Kozou is a two-player tabletop arcade game released in Japan by Miki Syouji in 1989. The gameplay centers on traditional mahjong rules, played using a specialized keyboard interface designed for the game. Players compete against each other to form legal hands and ultimately win the round. The game’s distinctive feature lies in its presentation – players encounter female characters who are depicted as being geographically displaced. Success in defeating an opponent results in the player viewing images related to that character, adding a visual element beyond standard mahjong gameplay. Built on newer arcade hardware, Mahjong Camera Kozou incorporates sound chips—an FM synthesizer and DAC—to provide audio accompaniment during matches. The game's title translates from Japanese as "Mahjong Camera Brat" and was followed by a “BET” version released the following year.
