Gameplay

In Bristles, up to four players take on the role of Peter, a carpenter attempting to paint a house. This 1983 platform game challenges players with run-and-jump gameplay as they navigate obstacles and apply coats of paint to the structure’s exterior. Using an eight-way joystick for movement and two buttons for actions, each player must carefully time their jumps to avoid hazards while completing painting tasks across multiple screens. The game's simple premise belies a potentially challenging experience for all participants. The MOS Technology M6502 and Motorola M68705 processors power the visuals and sound effects, accompanied by a POKEY chip handling audio through a single speaker. Designed by Fernando Herrera, Bristles provides a straightforward cooperative or competitive environment for players seeking a retro platforming experience.
