Gameplay

Konami’s Metamorphic Force, released in 1993, is a fast-paced fighting game offering four selectable characters, each with a unique ability to transform into powerful animal forms during combat. Players utilize an eight-way joystick and two buttons for attack and jump commands as they battle through stages. The European version (EAA) features numerical displays indicating character energy levels—a departure from the Japanese release which uses an energy bar. The gameplay emphasizes strategic transformations, allowing players to adapt their fighting style against a variety of opponents. As a 2.5D fighter, Metamorphic Force presents depth and perspective shifts during action sequences. The game supports up to four simultaneous players, making it suitable for competitive group play. A soundtrack album featuring music from the game was released shortly after its debut. Built around a Motorola 68000 processor and accompanied by Zilog Z80 sound processing, Metamorphic Force provides an engaging arcade experience with visually dynamic character designs and energetic musical accompaniment. The title includes an anti-drug message displayed upon startup of the American and European versions.
