Amazing Maze — Gameplay
Gameplay

Players control geometric shapes in Amazing Maze, a two-player maze game released by Midway in 1976. The objective is to reach your opponent’s starting point before they reach yours, navigating monochrome mazes using a joystick. Each maze features a single, correct path and changes with every successful completion, ensuring no two games are ever the same; players can theoretically play for extended periods without encountering a repeated layout. The game presents challenges comparable to those found in traditional pencil-and-paper mazes, demanding careful planning and quick reflexes. Gameplay is timed, and points are awarded based on how quickly you outmaneuver your opponent—or a computer player if playing solo. The standard game length is ninety seconds, but this can be adjusted by the arcade operator. Amazing Maze debuted in an upright dedicated cabinet finished in white and tan with side art covering the entire machine. A simple control panel provides each player with a joystick; however, due to the layout, one player uses their left hand while the other utilizes their right.
