Mayhem 2002
Cinematronics • 1985

Cinematronics’ Mayhem 2002 arrived in arcades in 1985 and offers a unique competitive sports experience for up to two players. Utilizing Zilog Z80 processors and General Instrument sound chips, the game challenges players to outscore their opponent across a series of timed rounds. Players control on-screen characters using an eight-way joystick and three buttons, aiming to rack up points through various actions within each round. The gameplay centers around skillful maneuvering and quick reflexes as you attempt to maximize your score before time runs out. While the specific mechanics vary between rounds, the core objective remains consistent: achieve a higher point total than your rival. A default highscore table displays names like "J E" and “RLL” alongside their scores, showcasing past player achievements. David Leicht currently holds the top recorded score of 10,200 points, demonstrating the potential for mastery within Mayhem 2002. The game was designed by David Dentt, Phil Sorger, and Bob Skinner, with graphics contributed by Tom Carroll and Dana Christianson.
