Gameplay

Many Block is a two-player puzzle game released in 1991 by Bee-Oh. Players use an eight-way joystick to manipulate colored blocks on a playing field, sliding them horizontally and vertically to align rows of the same color. Successfully clearing a row removes it from play and awards points; the goal is to achieve a high score through strategic block movement. The game features a distinctive soundtrack driven by a Zilog Z80 processor alongside Yamaha and OKI sound chips. Originally developed under the title Jewels by UPL, this prototype version ultimately failed to perform well in initial testing and was cancelled, with the last known build appearing in December 1991. While short-lived, Many Block offers a simple yet engaging gameplay loop focused on spatial reasoning and quick reflexes, demanding coordination between both players as they compete for the top spot on the high score table. A current leaderboard shows scores ranging from 10,000 to 19,000 points, achieved across one to ten rounds of play.
