Gameplay

Step into the ring with Main Event, a two-player boxing game released by SNK in 1984. Players control their chosen boxer using an eight-way joystick and button controls to deliver punches and defend against their opponent. The gameplay focuses on strategic positioning and timing as you attempt to outmaneuver and wear down your rival across a series of rounds. The game features straightforward boxing mechanics, emphasizing the fundamentals of jabs, hooks, and uppercuts. Successfully landing blows builds up your boxer's score while depleting your opponent’s. A unique characteristic is that when first played, the world ranking table displays all scores as zero, providing a fresh leaderboard for players to populate with their accomplishments. Main Event utilizes Zilog Z80 processors and General Instrument AY8910 sound chips to deliver its gameplay experience, offering a classic sporting challenge for two competitors.
