Mad Motor (prototype, set 1)
Mitchell • 1989

Mad Motor is a two-player fighting game developed by Mitchell and released in prototype form in 1989. Utilizing a 2.5D perspective, players control customizable vehicles locked in combat against one another. Each player uses an eight-way joystick to maneuver their vehicle across the screen, pressing buttons to attack and defend. The game features a complex sound system utilizing multiple chips to produce distinctive audio cues during gameplay. The visual presentation showcases detailed sprites for both the competing machines and the environments they traverse. Gameplay revolves around strategic positioning and skillful use of attacks to outmaneuver and defeat your opponent. Mad Motor never saw full release, remaining as an intriguing glimpse into a potential project from Mitchell's development labs. Powered by a Motorola 68000 processor and a suite of sound chips including a HuC6280, YM2203, YM2151, and two OKI6295 units, this prototype offers a unique and technically impressive arcade experience for those interested in unreleased game development.
