Gameplay

Mad Ball (V2.0) is a two-player breakout game released in 1998 by Yun Sung. Players control paddles to deflect a ball and destroy formations of blocks while striking falling coins and jewels for points. The game shares core mechanics with titles like Arkanoid, incorporating power-ups that can be collected to enhance either the paddle's capabilities or the ball’s behavior. Distinct backgrounds featuring images of female figures appear on each stage, adding a visual element to the gameplay. Players use an 8-way joystick to maneuver their paddles and fire a gun mounted on the paddle to target blocks and enemies directly. Destroying blocks often reveals hidden power-ups that can be collected for strategic advantages in later stages. Points earned throughout a level can be spent at the end of each stage to acquire additional power-ups, offering players choices about how to approach subsequent challenges. Losing a life occurs when the ball passes beyond the paddle's reach; the game concludes when all lives are depleted. The Zilog Z80 processor drives the action on a horizontal screen with a resolution of 256x224 pixels, offering a vibrant palette of over two thousand colors.
