M.A.C.H. 3 (set 1)
Mylstar • 1983

Piloting either a fighter or bomber aircraft, players navigate through dynamic landscapes in M.A.C.H. 3, a thrilling flying shooter released by Mylstar in 1983. The game uniquely combines live-action video footage with computer graphics to create an immersive chase view experience. As the pilot, you’ll target ground and aerial enemies while evading incoming fire – a testament to the innovative use of laser disc technology at the time. The creation of M.A.C.H. 3 involved considerable effort; specially equipped aircraft captured video footage which was then meticulously synchronized with computer-generated graphics, frame by painstaking frame. This process allowed for surprisingly realistic environments and enemy movement within the game's visual presentation. Players control their aircraft using an eight-way joystick and two buttons to engage targets in this single-player challenge. Approximately five thousand six hundred units of M.A.C.H. 3 were produced, with both upright and sit-down cabinet versions available. The game’s title is an acronym for “Military Air Command Hunter,” reflecting the player's role as a pilot undertaking dangerous aerial missions.
