Looping (Europe)
Video Games GmbH • 1982

Looping challenges two players to pilot aircraft through Adventure-Land, dodging and destroying colorful hot air balloons that quickly surround them upon starting the game. Success demands skillful maneuvering as players engage in a frantic aerial dogfight, looping their planes to avoid obstacles and rack up points. The gameplay evolves with the introduction of a Maze Tunnel, requiring precise navigation through a labyrinthine passage. Beyond the balloon-filled skies, players will encounter unique challenges like rocket destruction which opens gates and leads to a “blob” room where a green creature drops from above. Mastering techniques such as holding down the accelerator during dives and climbs allows for tighter turns and maximizes scoring potential within the maze tunnels. The game’s sound chip is capable of audible commands throughout the mission. Developed in Parma, Italy, Looping features relatively rare Texas Instruments CPUs and a dedicated DAC sound chip making original hardware increasingly scarce. A sequel, Sky Bumper, followed shortly after its April 1982 release, cementing Video Games GmbH's place in early arcade gaming history.
