Line of Fire / Bakudan Yarou (World) (FD1094 317-0136)
Sega • 1989

In Line of Fire, two players take on the roles of commandos who uncover a powerful, vehicle-mounted machine pistol hidden within an enemy base. Tasked with escaping and reporting their discovery, they must fight through waves of hostile forces to break free. Gameplay involves utilizing light guns to target and destroy enemy soldiers, tanks, artillery, and helicopters as you navigate various environments including jungle terrain and fortified bases. Each stage culminates in a confrontation with a formidable boss vehicle that requires careful aiming and resource management to defeat. Players are limited to ammunition clips for the machine gun, hand grenades, and occasional screen-clearing missiles, which can be replenished during gameplay by shooting designated icons. A map screen provides visual representation of progress through the enemy facility. Originally released in both sit-down dual-player and upright cabinets, Line of Fire, known as Bakudan Yarou in Japan, offered a challenging shooter experience leveraging Sega’s X Board hardware. Ports were later made available for several home computer platforms.
