Lizard Wizard
Techstar (Sunn license) • 1985

In Lizard Wizard, players control a mystical hero tasked with liberating Zyfus’s inhabitants from volcanic imprisonment. Using an eight-way joystick, you aim and fire at rocks erupting from a volcano at the base of the screen. Missed projectiles ignite, becoming hazards consumed by dragon-like lizards that patrol the area. As prisoners are released, your challenge expands to rescuing them by guiding them to surface platforms while also contending with the appearance of Spydors which must be eliminated before they reach the top. The game accommodates two players in cooperative action against this fantastical threat. Gameplay involves navigating a field setting and carefully managing both offensive attacks and prisoner retrieval. The Zilog Z80 processor powers the visuals, complemented by a three-channel Namco sound chip providing the audio experience. Released in November 1985 under license from Sunn, Lizard Wizard presents a straightforward shooter experience centered around strategic targeting and rescue operations.
