Light Bringer (Ver 2.2O 1994/04/08)
Taito Corporation Japan • 1993
Also known as: Dungeon Magic

Four heroes—Ash, Gren, Cisty, and Vold—team up to battle against a spreading corruption in this 1993 maze/fighter from Taito. Players choose one of these characters, each with unique martial abilities and special attacks like Ash’s Arc Sword or Cisty's spirit summons, as they navigate through dungeons and castle environments on a quest to defeat the source of the encroaching evil. The game distinguishes itself with less linear level design compared to more traditional beat 'em ups. Gameplay involves battling waves of enemies while exploring interconnected areas, encouraging players to explore and discover hidden paths. Each character possesses distinct power attacks and special moves that can be utilized against opponents or to traverse obstacles. A peculiar quirk prevents players from entering "SEX" on the high score table, which will automatically be censored. Originally released in Japan as Lightbringer, it was later distributed internationally under the name Dungeon Magic. The Taito F3 system powered this cooperative experience designed for up to four players utilizing eight-way joystick controls and a standard button layout.
