Gameplay

Step onto the lanes with SNK’s League Bowling, a two-player arcade sports game released in 1990 for the Neo-Geo MVS platform. Players select either a right or left-handed bowler and choose their ball weight before beginning a match, then utilize power and direction meters to aim and execute each roll within a twenty-second time limit. Accuracy and timing are key to scoring well across three distinct game modes: 'Regulation', 'Flash', and the high-scoring 'Strike 90'. The ‘Flash’ mode adds a unique twist where points momentarily displayed on the lane are added to your score if you knock down all the pins, creating opportunities for quick point accumulation. The 'Strike 90' mode presents another scoring variation, awarding significant bonus points for strikes and spares. A subtle nod to SNK’s other titles can be found within League Bowling; a cameo appearance by Nadia from Secret of Blue Water is visible in the background during player selection. Designed with a straightforward control scheme—a joystick and a single button—League Bowling delivers a quick, competitive bowling experience suited for head-to-head arcade play. The game was later ported to other Neo-Geo systems and even saw a release on PlayStation Store years after its initial arcade debut.
