The King of Fighters '94 (NGM-055 ~ NGH-055)
SNK • 1994

The King of Fighters '94 pits two players against each other in intense team battles. Choose from twenty-four selectable characters, organized into teams of three, and compete to defeat the mysterious Rugal Bernstein. This groundbreaking fighting game combined elements from SNK’s previous titles, Fatal Fury - King of Fighters and Art of Fighting, introducing a unique "team battle system" where players cycle through their team members during a match. Players control their chosen character using an eight-way joystick and four attack buttons—light punch, light kick, strong punch, and strong kick—to execute various special moves and combos. The game’s story features characters encountering statues of defeated opponents, including one that bears a striking resemblance to a popular rival fighter. Character design in The King of Fighters '94 was often influenced by external sources; for example, one character's appearance was inspired by a comic book hero, while another’s victory lines caused unexpected reactions from the development team. Terry Bogard and Andy Bogard, familiar faces from earlier SNK games, received significant enhancements to their move sets, solidifying the game’s impact on the fighting genre.
