The King of Fighters 2000 (NGM-2570 ~ NGH-2570)
SNK • 2000

Select from thirty-four characters to form your team and challenge Zero in The King of Fighters 2000, a two-player versus fighting game released by SNK in 2000. This installment introduces the “striker” system, allowing players to swap between three fighters during a match to adjust their strategies and exploit opponent weaknesses. Each character possesses unique special moves and fighting styles, drawing inspiration from wrestling and martial arts traditions. The game utilizes a standard four-button control scheme – weak punch, weak kick, strong punch, and strong kick – for each player to execute attacks and combos. Character designs explore varied themes; some characters were created with specific markets in mind, like the luchador Ramon reflecting South American tastes, while others represent shifts in character archetypes within the series, such as Vanessa’s mature appeal. Beyond the core tournament battles, players can uncover deeper connections between characters through their endings and special sequences which expand upon the world of the NESTS Chronicles storyline—including a memorable appearance by Candy Diamond during Kula's special moves.
