Kangaroo
Sun Electronics • 1982

Sun Electronics’ Kangaroo challenges players to guide a determined mother kangaroo on a quest to rescue her captured son. This fast-paced platform game sees you ascending through lush treetop levels, dodging and battling mischievous monkeys who attempt to thwart your progress by pelting you with apples. Players can either jump or duck to avoid the fruit, or punch them back at their throwers for added points and strategic advantage. A constant threat looms: failing to react quickly enough results in a giant ape stealing your boxing gloves, leaving you vulnerable until they reappear. Scattered throughout each stage are fruits and vegetables that award bonus scores, while ringing bells will summon more of these goodies. The game features four distinct stages, increasing in difficulty with each successive loop. Kangaroo is designed for two players, offering cooperative or competitive gameplay as you both strive to reach the highest score. Controlling your kangaroo with an eight-way joystick and a single punch button, this vertical screen title provides simple controls and engaging action that’s easy to pick up but challenging to master.
