Also known as: Astro Invader

Defend your laser base against relentless waves of alien invaders in Konami’s Kamikaze, released in 1980. This two-player vertical shooter pits you and a friend against an unending stream of spacecraft that emerge continuously from the top of the screen. Your objective is to eliminate each wave before they overwhelm your defenses, with new “mother ships” appearing periodically to unleash fresh barrages of enemies. Gameplay revolves around strategic positioning and quick reflexes as you manage the invaders across several platforms, keeping a watchful eye out for UFOs that will destroy your base upon landing. Scoring is based on eliminating aliens, with higher point values awarded for moving targets and the elusive UFOs. Success relies not only on destroying the invaders but also understanding their distribution patterns to anticipate threats and protect your laser base from falling alien spacecraft and indirect fire—a constant test of skill and coordination.
