Kaitei Takara Sagashi
K.K. Tokki • 1980

Descend into the depths in Kaitei Takara Sagashi, a cooperative underwater exploration game released in Japan by K.K. Tokki in 1980. Players control a submersible that slowly lowers toward the ocean floor, dodging fish while attempting to locate hidden treasure caches. Using a two-way joystick, players can maneuver left and right to fire a harpoon at approaching marine life—avoiding them is also a valid strategy. Upon reaching the seabed, contact with a treasure cache triggers a descent into its depths, followed by an ascent back toward the surface vessel. This cyclical pattern requires constant vigilance as fish continue to swim throughout the gameplay area. The game's title translates from Japanese as "Underwater Treasure Hunting," reflecting the core objective of navigating and avoiding hazards while seeking submerged riches. Kaitei Takara Sagashi is designed for two players, utilizing a simple control scheme of a two-way joystick and a single button. Originally developed in collaboration between Nagano Bunka Kiki and Universal Special machine, it was later reworked and published by K.K. Tokki.
