Kaiser Knuckle (Ver 2.1O 1994/07/29)
Taito Corporation Japan • 1994
Also known as: Global Champion

Kaiser Knuckle is a two-player fighting game released by Taito in 1994, intended as a competitor to Capcom's Street Fighter II. Players select from a roster of nine distinct characters, each with their own set of special moves executed through combinations of joystick and button inputs, or face off against three powerful bosses. A unique feature allows for five different levels of strength for basic punches and kicks, providing nuanced control over attacks. Battles take place on detailed stages that can be damaged during combat; landing a special move when the character’s power meter is full triggers a "power zone," adding elemental effects like electricity or fire to subsequent attacks and further damaging the background environment. The game originally featured blood effects, though these could be disabled via dip switch settings. Though it never achieved widespread success or home console release, Kaiser Knuckle offered a distinctive fighting experience with its detailed character designs and unique gameplay mechanics, running on Taito’s F3 system hardware. A planned updated version, known as “Dan-Ku-Ga,” was ultimately cancelled.
