Juno First
Konami • 1983

Juno First is a two-player vertical scrolling shooter released by Konami in 1983. Players pilot spacecraft through increasingly challenging levels filled with alien invaders that move freely across the screen rather than forming static patterns. The game’s unique perspective allows for both forward and backward movement, adding an extra layer of control as you navigate the chaotic battlefield. A key gameplay element involves rescuing stranded astronauts released from spherical space capsules; capturing them within a time limit triggers a bonus period where enemy points are doubled. Players also have access to a risky “warp” function, allowing them to instantaneously relocate their ship – though its destination is random and could place them in immediate danger. Three warps are available per level. As players progress, alien formations shift, and enemies evolve into more formidable opponents. Completing each stage requires eliminating every visible alien, while earning points rewards additional ships—though scores reset after reaching a million.
