Jan Jan Paradise
Electro Design • 1996

Jan Jan Paradise is a tabletop mahjong game released in Japan by Electro Design in 1996 for the Kaneko Super Nova system. Players take on the role of a single character selected from twelve available options; at the start of each game, three random female characters are presented to choose from. Before matches begin, players select their opponent from another randomly generated trio of characters. Each character in Jan Jan Paradise has unique visual elements including three still images and one animated sequence. Successfully defeating an opponent unlocks their final image as a reward, while losing results in viewing all of the player’s character's images – excluding the animation. The game utilizes an 8-way joystick for control and features a resolution of 320x240 pixels with a color palette of over sixteen thousand colors. Notably, eight characters from Jan Jan Paradise also appear in Electro Design’s earlier title, Gals Panic S. A direct sequel, Jan Jan Paradise 2, followed shortly after its release.
