Jan Jan Paradise 2
Electro Design • 1997

Electro Design’s Jan Jan Paradise 2, released in 1997, presents a solo tabletop experience centered around the classic game of mahjong. Players choose from twelve distinct characters to represent themselves and then select an opponent for each match from the same roster. A key feature is the ability to cycle through all available character pairings – expanding on the original’s limited selection—offering more varied gameplay. As players progress, defeating opponents unlocks a special animation sequence for those characters, replacing their final portrait image in a post-game “gals collection” display. Conversely, losing a match results in viewing a sequence of still images from the player character's available portraits. The game utilizes the Kaneko Super Nova hardware and offers a horizontal screen resolution of 320x240 pixels. Control is achieved through an eight-way joystick and two buttons, allowing for precise manipulation during gameplay. Jan Jan Paradise 2 builds upon its predecessor with increased character options and visual rewards, providing a deeper and more engaging mahjong experience.
