Konami’s Jail Break, released in 1986, is a cooperative platform and scrolling shooter designed for two players. Players assume the roles of prisoners attempting to escape from a heavily guarded facility modeled after New York City streets. The gameplay involves navigating through multiple screens, dodging enemy fire and obstacles while collecting items that aid in the breakout. As they progress, players must confront increasingly challenging security measures and waves of adversaries, utilizing their limited weaponry to clear a path toward freedom. This arcade version is an export kit, based on the original Japanese game Manhattan 24 Bunsho - NY 151 Nishi Dai 100 Street. The game has seen ports to several European home computers including Commodore C64, Amstrad CPC, and Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Donn Nauert currently holds the high score record for Jail Break with a total of 185,900 points.
