Image Fight (World)
Irem • 1988

Image Fight challenges players to navigate a unique training simulation before embarking on a critical mission. Initially, pilots endure five stages designed to assess their skills; failing to meet performance standards results in penalties. Once deemed proficient, players launch into space to confront alien vegetation threatening the Moon's central computer across three additional levels. This vertically scrolling shooter offers a considerable challenge alongside a variety of weaponry and adjustable speed settings for strategic maneuvering. A distinctive gameplay feature allows equipped ships to fling forward-mounted guns like boomerangs by simultaneously pressing both action buttons, providing a powerful offensive option usable repeatedly. Developed in 1988 by Irem, Image Fight supports cooperative play for two players and features a soundtrack composed by Masato Ishizaki. The player’s ship, the OF-1, later appeared as an unlockable vessel in a Sony PlayStation 2 game, demonstrating its enduring design influence.
