Ibara Kuro Black Label (Japan, 2006/02/06. MASTER VER.)
Cave (AMI license) • 2006

Ibara Kuro – Black Label is a vertically scrolling shooter released in Japan by Cave under license from AMI in early 2006. Players take control of one of two characters—a cooperative experience supported for up to two players—piloting advanced aircraft through intense, visually striking environments. Gameplay revolves around navigating dense bullet patterns and powerful enemy formations while collecting items and unleashing devastating attacks. This is a direct sequel to the 2005 title Ibara, and part of a trilogy that includes PinkSweets - Ibara Sorekara. The game utilizes Cave’s third-generation arcade hardware, resulting in detailed graphics and dynamic sound design handled by Yamaha YMZ770C-F chips. Its creation involved a team of developers including programmer Mamoru Furukawa and chief designer Akira Wakabayashi, with character designs from Tomoyuki Kotani and music composed by Shinji Hosoe. The limited production run—only one hundred boards were manufactured—makes this title relatively rare in the arcade landscape. Players maneuver their ships using an eight-way joystick and four buttons to manage weaponry and defensive maneuvers against a relentless onslaught of enemies. Distinct character voices, performed by actors such as Chiharu Komine and Daisuke Matsumoto, contribute to the game’s atmosphere and provide context during gameplay sequences.
