Ibara is a fast-paced, vertically scrolling shooter released in arcades by Cave in 2005, published under license by AMI. Two players can team up to navigate through challenging levels filled with enemy formations and intense boss battles. Players control one of two characters, utilizing an eight-way joystick for movement and a pair of buttons – one for firing shots and another for deploying bombs. The game features unique gameplay mechanics centered around collecting items that trigger special formations; mastering these patterns is key to maximizing score and survival. Secrets can be unlocked by manipulating the controls during the title screen, allowing players to experience harder or extended versions of the game. A limited-edition soundtrack album was released in 2006, showcasing music composed by Shinji Hosoe, a notable figure in video game music. Ibara launched a series which includes Ibara Kuro - Black Label and PinkSweets - Ibara Sorekara, alongside a later port to the Sony PlayStation 2.
