Hyper Pacman
SemiCom • 1995

Hyper Pacman, released in 1995 by SemiCom, offers a fresh take on the classic maze chase formula for two players. The game utilizes forced-perspective 3D graphics that allow characters to jump over pursuing ghosts, reminiscent of Namco’s earlier Pac-Mania. Players navigate intricate mazes collecting pellets and searching for hidden items which grant power-ups such as speed boosts, shields, and even laser weaponry. Gameplay involves strategically maneuvering through the maze while avoiding or outsmarting the ghosts. Specialized food items appear throughout each stage, providing temporary advantages to aid in collection and evasion. Every ten stages culminates in a boss encounter, adding a unique challenge beyond the standard ghost pursuit. The game progresses through thirty distinct stages, presenting increasingly complex mazes and demanding skillful play from both participants. Playing cooperatively provides an additional benefit: ghosts tend to pursue the first player less aggressively while increasing proximity to hidden items across each level.
