Step onto the virtual court with Hot Shots Tennis, a two-player sports arcade game released in 1990 by Strata and Incredible Technologies. Players use eight-way joysticks to control their tennis players, aiming for strategic shots across the net while competing against an opponent. The game features a straightforward premise focused on rallies and point scoring, offering accessible gameplay for casual players and competitive matches alike. Developed with technical expertise including CPUs from M6809 and sound chips from OKI6295 and YM3812, Hot Shots Tennis delivers a responsive experience and distinct audio cues during play. Initial versions of the game included software updates; later revisions added an “Exciter Setting” option accessible through the operator menu, likely adjusting ball speed or gameplay characteristics. A team including programmers Glen Wolfram and Jane Zeto brought this tennis simulation to life. The cabinet design was overseen by Stan Fukuoka, Scott Morrison, and Denise Wallner, while Dale Kerman Jr. contributed both artistic elements and conceptual ideas for the game’s presentation. Hot Shots Tennis provides a classic arcade sports experience centered around skill and quick reflexes.
