Hole Land (Japan)
Tecfri • 1984

Tecfri’s Hole Land, released in 1984, is a two-player shooter presented from a third-person perspective. Players control characters who must defend against enemies emerging from holes in the ground. A core mechanic involves jumping to avoid damage when these foes reach the bottom of the screen; failure to do so results in harm. The game’s technical specifications include a Zilog Z80 processor and General Instrument AY8910 sound chips, contributing to its distinctive audio experience. Gameplay centers around eliminating all visible enemies as they surface. Two players can cooperate, each utilizing a two-way joystick and two buttons for control. Hole Land initially appeared in Spain in April of 1984, and was subsequently licensed for distribution within the Japanese market, as well as Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, and Italy. The game’s development team included Javier Valero, Josep Quingles, and Luis Jonama.
