High Impact Football (rev LA5 02/15/91)
Williams • 1990

Williams’ High Impact Football puts four players in control of their own teams for fast-paced, arcade football action. Released in late 1990, this game allows players to directly manipulate their team members using an eight-way joystick and a single button to execute plays on the field. Players navigate through offensive and defensive formations, attempting to advance the ball and score touchdowns against opponents. The visuals are presented with a horizontal screen resolution of 396 x 256 pixels utilizing a palette of over four thousand colors, creating a vibrant playing field. The game’s soundtrack is driven by Yamaha and Motorola sound chips, contributing to an energetic atmosphere that matches the on-field intensity. A unit of High Impact Football even made a brief appearance in the film Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Designed by a team including Ed Boon and Eugene Jarvis, High Impact Football was followed up with Super High Impact the following year. The game utilizes Williams’ Y-Unit hardware platform and offers cooperative gameplay for up to four players.
