Hidden Catch (World) / Tul Lin Gu Lim Chat Ki '98 (Korea) (pcb ver 3.03)
Eolith • 1998

Hidden Catch presents a unique puzzle experience for two players, challenging them to compare detailed scenes displayed on separate screens and identify differences using a stylus. The gameplay revolves around careful observation; players must pinpoint discrepancies between the images with precision, marking their findings directly on the screen. A vibrating pen provides tactile feedback, both when correct matches are found and when mistakes are made, adding an unusual physical element to the mental exercise. Developed by Eolith in 1998, this game utilizes a custom hardware system allowing for detailed graphics, offering resolutions of 320x340 or 512x384 with sixteen-bit color depth. Known as "Tul Lin Gu Lim Chat Ki '98" in Korea, Hidden Catch initiated a series of puzzle games including New Hidden Catch, Hidden Catch 2, and Hidden Catch 3. The game’s soundtrack is delivered through a General MIDI chipset and incorporates background music stored on dedicated memory chips. Players control the stylus with an eight-way joystick while using two buttons, furthering the simple yet engaging gameplay loop of comparison and correction. The experience emphasizes visual acuity and quick thinking in a competitive environment for up to two players.
