Gameplay

In Harem, released in 1983 by I.G.R., players assume the role of a sheik tasked with rescuing captive women from within a guarded encampment. The gameplay unfolds on a vertical screen where you must guide your character, moving between tents to escort odalisques toward designated chambers at the bottom of the display. Along the way, hostile figures resembling Rambo characters appear and must be neutralized by throwing stones. A significant challenge arises in the form of a large, quickly-moving pink snake that patrols the area, demanding careful navigation and timing. Utilizing a Starplex system, Harem features simple graphics with a palette of 32 colors presented at a resolution of 224x256 pixels and running at approximately 60 frames per second. The game’s audio is generated by three General Instrument AY8910 chips paired with Zilog Z80 processors, contributing to its distinct soundscape. This single-player shooter demands quick reflexes and strategic movement as you navigate the perilous environment. The title was showcased at the ENADA exposition in Rome during 1983, marking one of I.G.R.'s contributions to the arcade scene of that era.
