Utilizing an eight-way joystick, players dodge projectiles while returning fire against the opposition, attempting to survive as long as possible and achieve a high score on the game's leaderboard. The game’s technical specifications include dual Zilog Z80 processors and General Instrument AY8910 sound chips contributing to its audio experience. Originally released in July of 1984, Gyrodine was also known by the alternative title "Buzzard." The development team included staff who would later contribute to Toaplan’s success. Gyrodine has seen ports to various platforms including the Nintendo Famicom and MSX computers. High score table entries include names such as Naomi.S, K.T, Shunkoh Miki, Nice Y.N, Atsushi Kawaguchi, and Minoru Harada.
