Gameplay

Published in 2000 by Bandai/Banpresto, Gunpey is a two-player puzzle game for the arcade. Players manipulate vertical line fragments within a five-tile wide grid, strategically shifting them to create continuous, branching lines that stretch horizontally across the board. Longer connected lines earn more points, challenging players to carefully plan their moves and outscore their opponent. The gameplay centers around creating these extended horizontal pathways by arranging falling pieces. Gunpey is a tribute to video game designer Gunpei Yokoi, recognizing his significant influence on both Nintendo and the Bandai Wonderswan console project. A sequel, Gunpey DS, was later released for the Nintendo DS in 2006. Prior versions of the game were initially available on handheld and PlayStation platforms beginning in 1999. The arcade version utilizes a V30 processor running at approximately 14.3 MHz.
